Detroit riverfront: Riverwalk finished, Belle Isle still draws crowds
DETROIT. The Detroit River Riverwalk and Greenways finished construction in 2025, adding to a stretch of waterfront that now includes the 22-acre Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park. A few miles downriver, Belle Isle's 982-acre state park still pulls people in for hiking, fishing, and bird watching among its historic sites.
Along the canals, Coriander Kitchen and Farm serves kayak to table dinners you can paddle in for. Grosse Ile keeps a quieter, more residential feel, with an 1867 church and an 1894 lighthouse still standing. Once the Gordie Howe International Bridge opens, it will add a 1.6-mile path for cyclists and walkers crossing between Detroit and Windsor.
