Michigan’s biggest book festival returns to Detroit this weekend with its largest event ever

Michigan's largest book festival returns to Eastern Market this Sunday for its 9th year, and organizers say it'll be bigger than ever. Over 300 authors, independent booksellers, publishers, and vendors from across the U.S. and Canada will fill four market sheds, DTE Plaza, and a parking lot with books, vinyl, comics, art, and collectibles. The event is free and runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., drawing thousands of readers looking to hunt rare finds, meet authors, shop independent publishers, or just spend a summer day surrounded by fellow book lovers.

Since its 2017 debut, the festival has grown steadily and now ranks among the Midwest's biggest free literary events. There's something for everyone — kids' author readings, rare collectibles for serious collectors, and budget-friendly used books for casual readers. An official afterparty at Detroit City Distillery follows the festival for those wanting to extend the day.
