Jordan Lee: a qualifier wins Wimbledon's boys' title

WIMBLEDON, ENGLAND. American Jordan Lee, 16, won the Wimbledon boys' singles title Sunday, beating Australia's Cruz Hewitt 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. He's only the second qualifier ever to win the boys' title, and the first qualifier to win any Grand Slam boys' event since Noah Rubin did it at Wimbledon in 2014. He's also the first American to take the title since Samir Banerjee in 2021.

Hewitt is the son of 2002 Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt, who watched from the stands. Lee rallied from a break down in the final set and closed it out with a backhand winner on his first match point. He'd spent much of the past year and a half hurt and unsure he'd play again. "A year ago at this time I was sitting at home on the couch, didn't know if I was going to play tennis again," he said.
