Ypsilanti District Library: Toyota grant funds STEM gear for three branches

YPSILANTI. The Ypsilanti District Library has leaned on Toyota's Driving Possibilities grant since 2023, pulling in $30,000 a year for STEM gear and visiting presenters. The money has bought 3D printers, digital microscopes, light tables, Ozobots, magnetic building tiles and a wind tunnel across the system's three branches.
In 2025 alone, the library ran 176 STEM programs with 4,879 people attending. Staff handed out more than 1,000 STEM kits, 554 paid for by Toyota and 500 donated by Eastern Michigan University. Development coordinator Christina McMullen said outside presenters draw bigger crowds and bring new families through the door.
The current grant runs through May 2027, with library staff aiming to deepen ties to Ypsilanti and Lincoln schools next.
