Life Remodeled: a second opportunity hub opens in East Detroit

DETROIT. Life Remodeled, a nonprofit founded in 2010, has opened Anchor Detroit, its second opportunity hub, in a former school at 9740 McKinney St. The nearly 90,000 square foot campus took three years to complete and cost $15 million to renovate. It offers workforce development, job training, youth programming and health resources.
The organization's flagship campus on the west side placed 852 Detroiters in jobs last year, generating $16.5 million in new or increased wages, and nearby home values rose 37 percent from 2017 to 2025. Life Remodeled has repurposed five vacant school buildings since 2014 and put more than $73 million into neighborhood work.
Anchor Detroit, financed with help from the Chicago based IFF, serves the Denby neighborhood on the east side. Partners on the project include Grand Valley State University, United Way and the Detroit College Access Network.
