Grosse Pointe firefighters: bikes delivered by firetruck

GROSSE POINTE. Three kids in Grosse Pointe won bikes in a raffle at a Walk Your Wheels event in late September. Robbie Lapolla, 7, and Abby Porter, 5, got a surprise delivery last week: the public safety department brought their new bikes, helmets and locks to their homes by firetruck, lights on. The third winner, 3 year old Aria Spayth, picked hers up at the station.

Officer Jarod Jones carried each bike to the door; Officer Ken Ayres drove the truck. The bikes and gear came from a Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards grant, which also equipped the other Pointe communities and Harper Woods.
