Highland: a downtown built one garden at a time

HIGHLAND. Highland Township's Downtown Development Authority runs Adopt a Garden, a volunteer program that plants and maintains gardens through downtown. The beds mix native plants, which support monarchs and other pollinators, with seasonal color.

Highland is one of eight Michigan Monarch Cities committed to habitat restoration. The DDA's other projects include the Highland Station boardwalk and sidewalk art contests, aimed at drawing residents and their kids downtown to walk, linger and visit shops.
