Mike Boynton Jr. officially named Michigan basketball head coach on two-year deal

The University of Michigan named Mike Boynton Jr. as its men's basketball head coach on a two-year deal, replacing Dusty May. Boynton, 42, spent the last two seasons as an assistant with the Wolverines and was previously the head coach at Oklahoma State for seven seasons. He takes over a program coming off a historic stretch: Michigan went 64–13 during his two years on staff, won the 2025 Big Ten Tournament and 2026 regular-season title, and claimed the national championship last season with a school-record 37–3 finish. As Michigan's defensive coordinator, Boynton helped the team lead the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency, and the program produced four first-round NBA draft picks during his tenure, including three lottery picks in this year's draft.
