Michigan Folk School: Folk Festival returns Oct. 17, free

SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP. The Michigan Folk School holds its annual Folk Festival Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Staebler Farm County Park, 7734 Plymouth Road. Admission is free.
Instructors run live demonstrations in blacksmithing, spoon carving, bushcraft, beekeeping, natural dyeing, leatherworking, stained glass, and basketry, according to program coordinator Wade Buck. Kids get face painting, there's live music, and food trucks bring in ice cream from Dixboro Dairy.
A silent auction of instructor made items runs in person and, for the first time, online, with proceeds going to the school. The festival is built for newcomers and returning students alike, and a new class schedule is due out by week's end.
