Haunted Detroit: four stops for Halloween

DETROIT. Four Detroit buildings carry ghost story reputations worth a Halloween visit: the Masonic Temple at 500 Temple St., the Whitney mansion at 4421 Woodward Ave., Michigan Central Station at 2001 15th St., and the Old Wayne County Jail, built in 1892 and set for demolition.
The Masonic Temple's Gothic design includes hidden chambers and a concealed staircase, though the Detroit Historical Society has debunked some of the architect legends tied to it. The Whitney runs ghost tours through its 19th-century mansion. Michigan Central Station hosts Shadows at the Station, a tour covering the building's 1913 fire and local legends, plus a free, family-friendly Halloween at the Station on Oct. 31 from 5 to 9 p.m.
The Old Wayne County Jail was once the largest in the country and is known among ghost hunters, but the site is slated for a tech and life sciences redevelopment. Prices for the other tours weren't listed; Halloween at the Station is free.
