DDOT Coolidge Terminal: $160 million bus facility opens on the west side

DETROIT. DDOT opened its new Coolidge Terminal, a $160 million, 200,000-square-foot bus facility on Detroit's west side. Federal money covered $102.5 million of the cost, the city put in $31.5 million, and the state added $25.6 million.

The complex holds a climate-controlled garage for 120 buses, a maintenance building, and an administration building with a lounge, kitchen, gym, lockers and showers for drivers and mechanics. It replaces the aging Gilbert Terminal and the original Coolidge facility, which ran from 1928 until a fire destroyed it in 2011. The east side's Shoemaker Terminal keeps operating as before, and the new building was designed with room to expand.
