Casa del Rey reopens in Pontiac after a $19.5 million renovation

PONTIAC. Casa del Rey, the tax-foreclosed apartment building at 111 Oneida St., held its grand opening this week after a $19.5 million renovation. The building sat vacant for 20 years before General Motors executives Ronita and Gregory Coleman formed Coleman Allen to restore it.

The project partnered with Oakland County's Land Bank Authority, the Oakland Together Housing Trust Fund, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, the state's Economic Development Corporation, Chicago lender IFF, and Cinnaire's WE Build program for women-led developments. Crews broke ground in November 2024 at a planned $15.5 million before finding foundation damage from long-missing downspouts, which raised the cost. Casa del Rey has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1989.
