Milwaukee Junction: a design district takes shape

DETROIT. Two University of Michigan alums are opening the Detroit Design District in Milwaukee Junction, anchored by the roughly 60,000 square foot Boyer Campbell building near East Grand Boulevard. Bria Bergman, a textile and product designer, and Amelia Patt-Zamir, an architect and principal at Method Development, want visitors walking between galleries, studios, restaurants and creative businesses in one stretch.
The district plans exhibitions, events, conferences and artist programming, built around what the neighborhood's existing creative community already does. "We're not trying to change the neighborhood," Bergman said. "We're trying to enhance what is already there."
