Apple picking: Wasem Orchard tips for beating the crowds

MILAN. Wasem Orchard on Judd Road is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday through Oct. 30, with shorter hours on Halloween. The farm sells you-pick apples, pumpkins, and raspberries alongside a store stocked with donuts, cider, and jelly.
Repeat visitors say to arrive near opening to beat both the crowds and the yellow jackets, and to walk deeper into the rows since the trees up front get picked clean first. Bring a step stool for the high branches and boots if it's rained.
Cider comes by the cup or the gallon, and the pumpkins and raspberries are there too.
