Eat for Impact: six Detroit restaurants add plant-based specials

DETROIT. Eat for Impact is back for its second year, with six local restaurants running plant-based specials: Ivy Kitchen & Cocktails, The Kitchen by Cooking with Que, Avalon Bakery and Cafe, Detroit People's Food Co-op and two others. Planted Society runs the campaign nationally; Nicole Bernabela and Kirsten Gardner organize the Detroit leg.
Last year's Detroit run sold $49,503 worth of plant-based specials and, organizers estimate, saved 16,805 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions, 1.9 million liters of water and 21,267 meters of land. Four restaurants kept the dishes on their menus afterward and two added new ones, adding up to an estimated 150,000 more kilograms saved over the following year.
The pitch isn't to go vegan. It's one dish, at a restaurant you already go to.
