SANA: the streetwear brand opened a downtown store Sept. 12

DETROIT. SANA opened its first store downtown on Sept. 12, after five years selling online. It sells tees, hoodies and trucker hats with designs pulled from Detroit's sports teams. The line outside started at 7 a.m. and about 500 people came through, with hundreds of giveaways, a DJ and embroidery done on the spot. Founder Michael Sana worked the crowd with a megaphone.

Sana grew up in Rochester Hills, working in his parents' store, Soccer World, where he designed logos and jerseys for soccer teams. He made a Steve Yzerman hoodie in 2021 and sold about 20 to friends and family, then about 40 on the next drop. The brand grew one drop at a time from there.

When the Pistons drafted Cade Cunningham that July, Sana turned a design around in 12 hours and got a shirt into his hands. Cunningham walked off a plane wearing it.
