Ausar Thompson: five years, $155 million, staying in Detroit

DETROIT. Ausar Thompson has agreed to a five-year, $155 million rookie-scale extension with the Pistons. ESPN's Shams Charania reported the deal Friday, Sept. 18.

Thompson is 22, and Detroit took him fifth overall in the 2023 draft. He made an All-Defensive team last season and finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting. He led the NBA in steals per game and put up 215 steals and blocks combined, third most in the league. He's one of three players with at least 300 steals and 150 blocks since entering the league in 2023.

His twin brother Amen plays for Houston. They're the first brothers in NBA history to each sign a contract worth $100 million or more, $363 million between them this offseason.
