Ludlow Memorial Park: the new playground is built for every ability

ROCHESTER. The city opened its rebuilt playground at Ludlow Memorial Park on Sept. 1. The barrier-free space sits off Ludlow Avenue in Rochester Municipal Park, with inclusive and sensory play equipment in one area for ages 2 to 5 and a separate playspace for ages 5 to 12.

The project cost $993,800. A $797,000 Community Project Funding grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development covered most of it. Officials used to call the spot the tot lot, and the playscapes were aging, said Jason Warner, the city's director of project management.

The gazebo and the swings stayed where they were. Gavin Drill, 15, of Shelby Township, rebuilt that gazebo with Boy Scout Troop 208 for his Eagle Scout project.
