Jalen Rose Leadership Academy: 95 percent graduate, and all of them get in somewhere
DETROIT. Jalen Rose Leadership Academy serves more than 400 students and graduates 95 percent of them. Every graduate is accepted into a college or a technical program. Jalen Rose founded the school in 2011.
Students have to apply to at least eight colleges and take part in an after-school activity, whether that's a job, a sport or Geek Club. Each freshman is paired with a faculty advisor who stays with them all four years and is the family's main contact. The school runs a 9 to 16 model, so alumni keep a staff contact through college for academic adjustment and financial aid.
Students also work a weekly food handoff with Forgotten Harvest, passing donation boxes into cars lined up down the block.
