A New Glass Filled Anchor on the Riverfront

The JW Marriott Detroit Water Square has opened along the Riverwalk, marking another milestone in Detroit's ongoing riverfront transformation. The 601-room hotel features distinctive glass architecture designed to maximize water views, over 53,000 square feet of meeting space, and dining venues including the return of the historic Joe Muir Seafood and Chophouse. The hotel is positioned to strengthen Detroit's convention and hospitality capacity, which has lagged despite the city having the 16th largest convention center in the country.

The project reflects broader momentum reshaping the west riverfront with improved public access, new parks, and mixed-use development. According to the pre-opening director, the hotel is designed as an "urban oasis" that invites both guests and the general public through outdoor terraces, landscaped areas, and public art. The goal is for it to become a social gathering place that connects visitors and locals to the riverfront and surrounding neighborhoods.
