Farm to table: four Metro Detroit restaurants grow their own

DETROIT. Four Metro Detroit restaurants are growing their own food. Rose's, on East Jefferson Avenue, turned a former parking lot into a garden for herbs and vegetables that go into dishes like its herb covered kielbasa. Coriander Kitchen and Farm runs its own farm about a mile from the restaurant, where owners Gwen Meyer and chef Alison Heeres grow roughly 190 crop varieties.

Sylvan Table, in Sylvan Lake, sits behind its own three acre farm. Farmer Rick Rigutto's tomato leaves get dyed into the kitchen's tomato leaf pasta. Takoi, on Michigan Avenue in Detroit, draws basil and peppers from HiO Farm, a one acre plot about a mile away in Core City.
