DIA: O'Keeffe show opens, first since 1934
DETROIT. The Detroit Institute of Arts opened "Georgia O'Keeffe: Architecture" Sept. 11, its first O'Keeffe show since 1934. The exhibit gathers 35 works from the 1920s through the 1960s, focused on the buildings and bridges she painted less often than her flowers.
O'Keeffe had Detroit ties: she knew the Saarinen family, corresponded with Frida Kahlo after Kahlo moved to Detroit in 1932, and was friends with architect Alexander Girard of Grosse Pointe Farms. The show runs through Jan. 3.
Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for students from Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, $30 and $15 general admission. Members get in free, as do county residents on Sept. 30, Oct. 25, and Dec. 11.
