Metro Detroit weekend guide: fairs, fashion and a symphony dance party

DETROIT. This weekend's calendar runs from a war memorial service to a 12 hour street fair. The Shepherd's "Other Routes" exhibition, spotlighting six artists' creative practices, runs Sept. 10 through 13; opening talks are free, general admission is $40. The War Memorial holds a 9/11 remembrance Sept. 11, songs and speeches, for $10.

Saturday brings a full slate: the Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Association's barn hosts a free blues festival from noon to 4 p.m., with horse rides and barn tours, and Dally in the Alley returns to the Cass Corridor for 12 free hours across six music stages. The Detroit Public Library hosts a free runway show for emerging Detroit designers the same day. Sunday closes the weekend with a free, sensory friendly Detroit Symphony Orchestra concert and dance party with the Cancel Monday Band.
