Detroit Month of Design: four installations to catch this September

DETROIT. Detroit Month of Design runs through Sept. 30 for its 16th year, with more than 100 events under the theme "Design Moves the Future." The city is the only UNESCO designated City of Design in the U.S., and most of the events are free.

Four installations stand out. "Between Your Love & Mine," from design collectives UNDECORATED, SOCA, OSD+ and Castor Design, takes over Little Village on the east side through Sept. 30, built around the Detroit River's tie to Canada. "Cars at The Station," a free look at mobility and Motor City culture, runs Friday, Sept. 11, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Michigan Central. "Born in Sepia," a fashion and cultural installation with a runway show, is part of the IDeate Cultural Arts Festival at the W.I.S.E Partnership space on West Chicago Boulevard. And "SCORE: Sports by Design," on the region's sports history, is on the third floor of the Detroit Public Library's main branch.
