Detroit Evening Report: Whitmer says stick with current school strategy
DETROIT. Gov. Whitmer says Michigan needs to stick with its current education strategies rather than switch course, pointing to curriculum changes, universal school meals and literacy coaching already in place. Reading scores in grades 3 through 8 dipped slightly even so, and this school year the state is adjusting district funding based on how many "at risk" students each district enrolls. Whitmer hasn't decided whether Michigan will join the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit program; she's waiting on details from the Treasury Department, and Michigan is one of 15 states still deciding.
Detroit opened applications today for two home repair programs: Critical Home Repair, for owner occupied homes with children under 18, seniors 62 and older, or residents with a documented disability, and Detroit LeadSafe, for owners or renters with children under 6 or a pregnant resident.
