Henry Ford Museum: nine founding documents land in Dearborn
DEARBORN. The Henry Ford Museum hosts the Freedom Plane National Tour July 9 through 26, displaying nine documents from the National Archives, including an original engraving of the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Paris signed by John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, and an early draft of the Constitution carrying delegates' handwritten notes. The exhibit is part of the museum's America: 250 Years in the Making celebrations and is free, though it requires a reservation.
Organizers expect between 18,000 and 21,000 visitors, based on turnout at the tour's other museum stops. A red, white and blue Boeing 737 called the Freedom Plane delivered the documents to Detroit, though the plane itself isn't part of the display.
According to organizers, the full set of documents has never been shown together anywhere before, not even in Washington, D.C.
