Food LOOP: North End farmers buy a hub for $325,000

DETROIT. Detroit Food LOOP bought a 9,000 square foot former grocery store on Oakland Avenue Urban Farm's block Aug. 14 for $325,000. The coalition of urban farmers plans a solar powered kitchen, food storage, event space, and a business training center, backed by state grants and loans.

The North End building is the first of several food hubs the group wants to open. Organizers present the plans to City Council in late September.
