Aroldis Chapman: reliever breaks MLB's all-time strikeout record

ANAHEIM. Aroldis Chapman struck out the Angels' Denzer Guzman on a 98.6 mph pitch Friday night for his 1,364th career strikeout, the most ever by a relief pitcher. The mark had belonged to Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm since 1972.

Chapman, 38, picked up his 383rd career save in the same game, a 5-2 Boston win. He's a Red Sox left-hander now, but he's pitched in relief for seven teams and 889 games since defecting from Cuba in 2009. He won AL Reliever of the Year last season with a 1.17 ERA.
