Morocco 3, Canada 0: Africa's team reaches the quarterfinals again

HOUSTON. Morocco beat co-host Canada 3-0 in the World Cup Round of 16 on Saturday, with two goals from Azzedine Ounahi and one from Soufiane Rahimi in stoppage time. It's the second time Morocco has reached the quarterfinals, the only African nation to do it more than once.

Canada played without star Alphonso Davies, out with a hamstring injury, and its own run ended after its first World Cup knockout win, 1-0 over South Africa, in the round before. Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made three saves. Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi said after the match: "We are no longer a surprise. Now when people talk about Morocco we're a major contender." Morocco plays France in the quarterfinals Thursday in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
