Detroit Hot Sauce Festival brings the heat to the Masonic Temple

Detroit Hot Sauce Festival debuts August 1–2 at the Masonic Temple, featuring hot sauce vendors from Michigan and beyond, live entertainment, family activities, and competitive eating contests. The centerpiece is the League of Fire World Title Chile Eating Belt Match on Saturday, where reigning champion Stephen Curgan takes on Hungarian competitor Jakab Janos — only the second time this world championship has been held in the U.S. Sunday brings the first Detroit Title Belt Match, with the winner advancing to a regional competition in Pennsylvania. The festival also includes appearances by former Red Wings player Darren McCarty and WDET host Ryan Patrick Hooper, plus workshops on launching a hot sauce brand led by MSU Product Center staff and local food entrepreneur Carlos Parisi.

Tickets start at $10 with single-day, weekend, and VIP options; kids under 10 get in free. A full schedule is on the festival website.
