Two English teachers: putting Nolan's Odyssey next to Homer's

DETROIT. John Monaghan and Harry Campeon, two English teachers with two decades in the classroom between them, are running a discussion and lecture series at local libraries this summer built around Christopher Nolan's film version of Homer's "The Odyssey." They're weighing the movie against the 3,000-year-old poem it's based on, looking at what changed and what didn't.

The sessions track themes like displacement, challenge, and belonging, the kind of thing that keeps a story about a man's long trip home relevant to a modern audience. WDET's "The Metro" featured the pair on July 21.
