Detroit parks are getting nearly $20 million in upgrades this year, including an inclusive play area at Eliza Howell Park, the city's first BMX track at Dorais Park, and a multi-sport court at Jane-Lasky Park. The improvements were shaped by resident and block club suggestions.

LGBT Detroit's Hotter Than July Festival—the city's longest-running Black LGBT Pride event—kicks off today with a candlelight vigil at Palmer Park (5:30 PM) and a bar crawl mixer on the Avenue of Fashion at 9 PM. The weekend includes an Art and Film Festival on Friday, a Palmer Park picnic on Saturday, a strolling brunch on Sunday, and a drag star search competition.
