9 Things To Know: Michigan's Need To Adapt, Early Voting, and Block Parties

Detroit has a busy weekend ahead with several free celebrations. The Detroit Historical Museum is marking its 75th anniversary on Friday, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with free admission, a classic car show, food trucks, live music, and family activities. The Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle celebrates its 65th anniversary the same day (Saturday, July 25) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with guided tours, maritime exhibits, live music, food, and a community mural-painting activity.

Saturday also brings Detroit's Department of Elections "Get Out to Vote" block party at its West Grand Boulevard headquarters from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., launching early voting for the primary election. The second annual Detroit Chinatown Block Party kicks off at noon near Cass & Peterboro, celebrating the neighborhood's Pan-Asian business community with food, music, and culture—last year drew over 4,000 people.
