RATHAUS: a theater built around filmmakers, not just films

DETROIT. A production company called RATHAUS is building an Artist Residency Theatre in the Little Village neighborhood, with a 30-seat screening room at its center. Co-founder Kevin Steen designed it as more than a place to watch movies: filmmakers get post-production workspaces, gathering spaces, and residencies that rotate a local and a visiting artist twice a year.

Architecture firm Dash Marshall, led by co-founder Ritchie Yao, shaped the building as a triangle around a central courtyard, borrowing the layout of a house, a porch, and a living room instead of a formal auditorium. No opening date has been announced.
